Our Commitment to the 'Āina

Did you know that around 85% of all textiles produced by the fashion industry end up in landfills? Yes, you read that correctly... 85%! This makes textiles the major contributor to environmental damage. One in every 5 garments reaches a landfill without being worn - not even once. By choosing to support Rare Breed, you are selecting to buy from a small business that creates their apparel, accessories & stationery only as the order is placed, creating less fabric and paper waste than conventional manufacturing. Read all about our commitment to our ʻāina (land)here.

Kapa Kakau and Kapa Kuiki Collections - Inspired by Legacy

This collection was inspired by Grandma Keahi Young. She was a woman who left a legacy through her hands — quilting, sewing, and stitching love into every blanket she made.
Our Kapa Kakau  and Kapa Kuiki prints were created in remembrance of her. Each block is a quiet nod to the quilts she stitched — thread by thread, with purpose and aloha.

“Blankets warm the body. Stories nourish the heart.”

I continue to tell her stories, in my own way — through the art I wear and the pieces I create. And every time I do, I hope a little of her mana carries on through me.
